Canoeing Through Quiet Mangroves
« on: November 02, 2014, 01:34:31 pm »

Halfway Creek is nestled in the southwest of Florida's Everglades National Park. The traditional swamp landscape gives way to a dense mangrove forest, which plays a crucial role in the health of the ecosystem. The fence-like mangrove roots provide a safe nursery for adolescent aquatic wildlife. But the hustle and bustle was all under the water's surface. From my canoe, it was nothing but peace and tranquility.

Matt, an eon or so ago I spent my college years in Miami, and during a 2007 return visit to south Florida my wife and I canoed Halfway Creek. It's a magical place, which your photos capture well. The mangroves are entrancing.
