More in my Heron Series. If you don't have these guys around you, it is hard to appreciate just how lovely a bird they are; yet within this beauty lies a voracious, ruthless killer who possesses the stealth of a leopard, the eyes of a hawk, and the speed of a cheetah. He can go from where his head is now, to a speared fish in the blink of an eye. Even when I know they are wound up for the spring, even with 1/2500 or higher shutter, it is still quite difficult to make that capture.

Another little thing about them I learned from a bird rehab person...

They can kill you. Their beak is so sharp and they are so strong and fast that if you aren't holding their beak tightly, they will try to stab you in the eye which will go straight thru to your brain.

Fun facts!!
