Is there anything close to Canon 28mm - 1.8

Is there anything close to Canon 28mm - 1.8 for similar performance, cost, size and weight.

I've had mine for 8 years now and it's been heavily used so the performance doesn't seem to be up to par.

It has served me well but before I buy another I'd like to hear from people who use primes in and around this focal length.

I was never a fan of the 28 1.8, the copies I'd seen were fairly poor performers compared to other options.

Buying a new lens in that price/focal length range? I'd be looking at the newer Canon 28 f/2.8 IS or 35 f/2 IS primes, very good performance.

If you wanted both fast aperture and wide, I'd prefer the Canon 24L, but you do have a cost/weight penalty there.

At the price point, I'd probably choose the 35 f/2 IS overall. $550 with rebate right now.

I had one that I never loved and quickly replaced by a sigma 28 1.8.
But it's an old lens: no usm, dual switch af/mf, "old sigma" yellowish colors, some af hunting.
But it has a better sharpness and lesser chromatic aberration.
The sigma is still used and still working, but the canon 24 1/1.4 is in wishlist (and it is a better lens).
Alternatives (without af) are the new nikon 28 1.8 muonted with an adapter or the zeiss 28 2; but I never tried those lenses.
