Critiques by Reichmann?
« on: December 02, 2005, 01:12:34 pm »

When I first found this site back in '02, there was a section where a handfull of user-submitted photos would get a few lines of critique from Reichmann.  That section was my favorite on the site, as he succintly gave tips on how to improve and it also showed diverse and inspirational pictures.  It does not appear to exist any more, nor can I find anything similar replacing it.  Did he just run out of time to do it, or did I overlook it somewhere?  If the first, would it be possible to have a limited version of it in the future?  I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Michael Reichmann stopped doing his monthly on-line critiques a couple of years ago (I believe because of time constraints) then switched to a quarterly contest featured in the LLVJ.

In the latest VJ (#13) he has again switched, to an on-camera print critique featuring the work of his workshop participants:

Is it too much to refer to him as Michael or Mr Reichmann?

Basic common decency actually. We're meant to be adults here.

Interesting, it seems that Pom edited his mispelling of "Micheal", which makes my comment look meaningless... and unlike the old board, this one doesn't track edits.

Seems a bit dodgy.... the whole meaning of a thread can be lost.

Also seems that Pom's sense of humour circuitry has gone AWOL. Never mind. Worse things happen at sea.

DRM, I found your comments offensive though not as much as the ones that followed. I changed the spelling as the mistake had been pointed out to me.

As to my original comment: This is MR's website and his forum, as in someones house you would not refer to them in a demeaning term, so to you shouldn't here. MR is usually referred to as 'Reichmann' when he is being slammed on other boards, it is almost always used as a derogatory term. I don't know of any other photographer or expert in the photographic field who is referred to on forums by a surname only, especially when they are not known by that in day to day life. I believe that it would be only common courtesy to refer to MR by a less demeaning term on his own website.

I've never met Michael, I've never been on one of his trips, I don't subscribe to the LLVJ (sorry Michael, the format doesn't appeal to me, I don't own a DVD player either). I find some of his pictures to srike a cord with me, some don't. I will buy one of the pictures when I get round to it (Geyser Glow — Yellowstone Feb. 2002), but I wouldn't consider myself to be brown nosing or in any way 'sucking' up to MR. I find MR to have his head firmly screwed on his shoulders and that's all that counts.

Man talk about over-reacting on a grande-dramatique scale!  Lots of people are called by thier last names by lots of people, it's nothing unusual and I certainly do not believe this poster meant ANYTHING 'demeaning' by it.  It probably happens to me 10 times a week on the phone and not once has it been anything but a mistake or the way a person is used to addressing people.  Get over yourself, sheesh.

My point is that with MR it is almost always meant to be demeaning. My original post was a simple question, it was your responses to it that were extremely immature.

larsrc      I would love to have again this kind of online critic ... as  well ... One possible reason that I was thinking after reading all of this post is that they took it away because people fight allot ..

I don't even understand how we suppose call  Mr. Michael Reichmann (did I did it right ?)

being an international site we should be more permissive and not judge so fast on the intention of people that post.

Or Mr. Mechael Reichmann should put and ad on his page saying how should he like to be call ..

english is my second lenguage

life is so short to be concern about how people should be called..I used to call my father inlaw by MR John...John is he first name..why no to continuo about what is the site about?  It's interesting  to know the Mr Reichmann had the site like that before.

I do support the site by getting the DVD and books and soon A photo.

I think this thread started with a reasonable question that only MR can answer, but has become a tempest in a tea-pot. My first and last contribution to it.

My original response was this:

"Is it too much to refer to him as Michael or Mr Reichmann?"

Just remember that those offensive pictures and comments (no, they were not funny) were in reply to the simple question above, nothing else.

If you want to call me up on that comment as Davidr805 and BlasR did, fine. I found the other comments and especially the pictures, personally offensive and was not amused in the slightest. It's easy to say 'lighten up' when you are not the butt of a particularly offensive joke (the pics) and far easier when you are the perpetrator.
