Sigma SPP and Firmware released today
« on: October 23, 2014, 12:30:28 pm »

Just an FYI for those Sigma users:

Sigma has released their newest version of SPP, 6.1, initial testing on my pc is that it runs a lot faster. Updates to tonal changes happen much faster.

Also new firmware for DP2 Quattro

Alan,
Thank you for this heads up.
Much appreciated.
Do you know when the new Quattro viewfinder will (really) be available ?

The rumor I have heard is that maybe tomorrow, Oct. 24, but I have no idea, that is a guess. I am interested in it too.

My first thought when hearing of any SPP release is:

"I wonder how horrible this version is"

I can honestly say I have never thought that about any other piece of software, ever.

Bucking the trend, I'm happily using it. I like the simplicity. The same goes for the cameras actually.
It does crash. I launched 6.1 last night and had a crash within 5 minutes.
I also never load more than about 10 to 12 images at a time. Doing that, SPP is fairly zippy and easy to use.

I have yet to see it crash, I wonder if the crashes are all Mac based? I have been loading dp2q and dp3m files, some with 50-60 image in a directory and it works fine. I have gone through a lot of them and taken a good close look.  So far I am happy, working fine.

Yes, I'm on a Mac.
Usually Pro-Photo freezes and won't quit when I exit the program.
Processing an image it seems to be reasonably stable, but it has crashed on me a couple of times.

Just tried to install new firmware. But it wouldn't work. Couldn't unzip file on my mac. Tech support informed there was a problem. Suggested I try again next week. The Quattro adventure continues !
