One that help me a lot in retouching in Photoshop and figuring out color management in the camera as well as the print is Lee Varis's "Skin II..." book.

http://www.amazon.com/Skin-Complete-Digitally-Photographing-Retouching/dp/0470592125

Helps me to pull together skin tones where it is a hodgepodge of color from various sources using CMYK control points.

I will add Why Photographs Work: 52 Great Images Who Made Them, What Makes Them Special and Why

Not because the photographs actually work, but because it demonstrates that even when the 'artistic' rules are followed with respect to line, color, shape, negative space, etc., doesn't mean a photograph will have impact and 'work' for everyone.  There are lots of photographs in this book that I consider mediocre.  It's ok to have your own opinion and own vision of what works!

While not wildlife and not 'how to' as you seem to be lookin for I suggest these.

HIGH PLAINS FARM, by Paula Chamlee

STRUCTURE, by Tillman Crane

LENSWORK, the magazine.

Composition and mastery of the medium are the emphasis. Putting the technical to rest so creativity takes over. Look at the images and information and the ideas behind them.

I've read quite a few David DuChemin books and they are all inspirational. Not how to do it books...but why to do it books.

You started a thread on here a few weeks back where you listed some books. I asked if you had read any of them and you replied all of them. So the members have some idea? You also post a lot of links.

True, and still not enough for chez to know whether or not I have read the author he suggested I should read.

I agree but especially Within the Frame and Photographically Speaking

Also
The War of Art by Pressfield - Not specifically about Photography but good advice just doing the work.

Great thread and I have picked up a couple of additional books to read....

Or more importantly...chez does not care one iota which books you have read. Your original remark regarding the author I suggested tells me enough about you...maybe even too much.

It was your smart ass remark to my suggestion which added nothing to this thread other than pollute it.

+1 on Feininger. Good (and prolific) writer in addition to being among my favorite photographers.
