Dolomites + plug for the Hans Kruse workshops
« on: October 17, 2014, 09:36:13 am »

Hi,

One of my favourite places on this planet are the Dolomites in northern Italy.

Here are some images taken this year. Many of those images were shot on a workshop held by Hans Kruse.

The workshop I have taken part in was in the western Dolomites. Arrangements were very nice and it was a very nice group of people taking part. Hans made an excellent job of taking us to great places. Looking at my images, I feel I learned a lot.

Next year, I hope I can take part in the Dolomites east workshop.

The Dolomites are one of my favourite areas! The excellent walking trails and refugios make for a great experience.

Erik - I recommend the Dolomites East workshop - the landscapes are similar but ... different. And Hans does an excellent job there, of course.

(p.s. I misread the title and was hoping to find a Lightroom plug-in for Hans Kruse-style landscapes  ;D   )

Very nice pictures Erik, I especially like the ones where you've used tele and zoomed in on some very spectacular scenes, coming to almost abstract compositions, awesome.
And indeed those workshops by Hans are very tempting, I hope to manage to be on the Dolomites East in 2015. Regards, Sander

I have been getting his newsletters for awhile now. I know. He combines the east and west into one also. It's a great spot and need to go!

Hi,

I will take part in the Dolomites East workshop end September 2015. Have been in that area many times…

I think Hans has two secrets:

  • Sit in the car 0400 in the morning and go for an one hour drive on serpentine roads in the dark.
  • Find a nice spot and shoot great images.
  • Process in Lightroom with generous use of the luminance slider, knowing what you are doing.

So, you don't need that "Hans Kruse" plug in :-)

BTW, I plan for a small exhibition February next year, on the Mountains, Valleys and Water. Here are some candidates:

Thanks very much Erik and sorry I didn't see the post until now. My only excuse was to run yet another workshop in Tuscany and I'm now in Sicily  ;D

Hi Hans,

No excuses needed!

I really enjoyed the workshop. It was a really good team, I would believe. Also, the arrangements were very good. Not least, I enjoyed our host Werner, a very nice young man, with inclination for both alpine climbing and excellent photography.

Now I am planning for the next year and I am pretty decided on joining the Dolomites East workshop. I have been there many times, but I count on an intense week of shooting joining up with you.

I add a few older images from that area:

The first two are from the walkway to Drei Zinnen. A gravestone for an italian soldier fallen in WW I. First picture is Pentax 67 on film from 2002, while the next one is 2013.

This one is from the Pragser See from 2013:
