Photographing Loy Krathong Festival in Bangkok?
« on: October 16, 2014, 03:05:16 pm »

I'm going to be in Bangkok at the time of this year's Loy Krathong Festival and am interested in getting some photos of what looks like a very colorful event. I understand this festival attracts huge crowds but I'm more interested in finding some place out of the worst of the crowds and perhaps with an elevated view. I have a fairly long telephoto lens, so I don't need to be right in the middle of things to get a decent photo. I'll probably buy a cheap tripod in Bangkok, since transporting tripods is usually a PITA.

I know how to get to the Saphan Tak Sin BTS Station from my hotel, but am not sure where to go from there. Any advice much appreciated. The last time I tried to photograph something like this, by the time I found the vantage point I wanted, everything was pretty much over with.

Sawatdee,
Went to the festival in Chang Mai and it was really magical, plenty of bridges over the river to shoot from.
My suggestion is to use a wide angle and get in there with the crowds.
The sky will be filled with lanterns and the rivers full of floats.
Your hotel will know good spots. Have a great time!
