California Fall Colors
« on: October 13, 2014, 10:57:06 am »

California doesn't have the "Grand Vista's" of Utah and Colorado but we have some areas of fall color and this year the colors are pretty good.

Clarity slider in LR tends to boost blues more than other colors. Also, many are not using UV filters anymore, thus shades tend to come out as bluish. I remember that even when shooting slides I would remove the UV filter in order to accentuate the blue-orange difference.

Yes, all of the the roads in California are blue! (Kidding of course). Thanks for pointing that out. I will take care of that issue.  :)

Additionally, the strong yellows of the trees can fools the camera with regards to the white balance of the scene, shifting it to the cool side.

No more Fall colors for me! (Kidding again). But seriously, the Fall colors in the Eastern Sierra this year were fantastic considering our drought conditions.  :)

Aloha,

Seriously?? Are all the moons over the canyons pale blurry disks , devoid of detail?

The slight blue cast to the road is perfect!
Blue is much better than gray, although there is nothing wrong with gray,
Later at night ,everything will be black!

If you shot then, somebody would say
Are all the roads in California black? Funny I thought they were paved in gold...

As an artist, keep your vision true to what you feel in your heart,
If blue upsets somebody, too bad. Don't think consciously, about what you do to much, or you will be pushed and pulled by forces that go against your own ascetics.

Somebody once said- there are no rules to good photographs, there are just good photographs.

Digital Gray Card :-)

In the second image it appears that the image was taken in the middle of the road. By the time the card is whipped out and used then the photographer will be flattened and the road will be coloured red and blue. ;)

Sorry... forgot to mention that I really do like your images.

Reminds me of the colors up in New Hampshire in the White Mountain National Forest.

California doesn't have the "Grand Vista's" of Utah and Colorado ...

Really?!?! I can't believe someone could actually say this on this forum and get away with it. What did Ansel shoot for all those years - painted backdrops?

If you look at the the subject line you would know I was talking about "Grand Vista's" of Fall "Colors". You may not know this but Ansel shot mostly B&W. I know Ansel's work quite well photographing many of the same places he did throughout the Sierra Nevada range.  :)

Hence my astonishment at your first comment. ;) It wan't meant as a criticism, only as an observation.

(I'll ignore the condescending comment about Ansel and B&W - the two are synonymous. And yes, he shot fall colours even it was in B&W.)
