Take the raw and convert it to a 16 bit tiff. What is your file size now?
17mb is about the right size for 11mp Rae file.

paul

it was Alamy stock agency that put on there site that it capable of that size file , i dont think they meant to obtain that size by converting it

ur standard advice for preparing digital camera files

 heres what they say:
for Alamy is as follows:    Use a pro-level camera with a “true” (non-interpolated) resolution of at least 6 megapixels. This will give an uncompressed file size of at least 17MB at 8 bit

Hi,

EOS 5D is 4368 x 2912 pixels, or 12,719,616 pixels. Each pixel has 3 bytes (R/G/B) making 38,158,848 bytes. So you need to down-sample to something like 2912 x 1952 pixels, x 3 bytes is 17 MB. So a 3000 x 2000 pixel image size should be enough.

'Raw' camera files are compressed and therefore vary in size depending on image content.

Cheers,
Bart

Hi,
You 5D is a roughly 12 MP camera. The raw file (CR2) contains the raw information of 6 mp green-filtered pixels, 3 mp of red-filtered pixels and 3 mp of blue-filtered pixels. Search for Bayer pattern to see  a schematic of the typical pixel array on your sensor. The raw converter (ACR, LR, DPP, etc,) de-mosaics that raw data into a roughly 36 mp RGB file. The algorithm used to transform the raw data into a full RGB file is black magic to this chemical days photographer. It used to be that photography was a combination of physics, chemistry and magic, now it is physics, statistics and magic!
