Not Recognising External Hardrives
« on: September 28, 2014, 02:03:03 pm »

I have the latest iteration of LR and working on a iMac with OS 10.9.5

While working today all of a sudden I got a message that my catalog was corrupted and that I should use another one.  While locating my backup catalogs, I realised LR was not recognising my external drives although my computer was.  I can not find a way to solve this problem.  Should I reload the software?  I can't find an answer in Adobe LR support nor Victoria Brampton's book.

Help please.

Cheers,
Brian

if you haven't already tried this..........

go into finder and unmount/eject the ext. drives.
unplug the drives from the computer
while LR is open, remount/re-plugin the drives

I would try to quit Lightroom and then double-click on the catalog. If that doesn't work, then try to log in as another user (guest for example) and redo the same test. If it works then something is problematic in your preferences.
You could also try to open the Console.app utility and see if Lightroom writes something like error messages there.

Thank you Howardm & Francois.  I was finally able to get  through to Adobe support and the gentleman was able to get me back up and working.  The gentleman at Adobe Support (India) was very knowledgable and thorough.

Hi Brian,

Peter

Hello,  I hate to admit this but I'm really not that clear on how it was fixed.  I know very little about the back end of computers and software.  I have been using LR since it first came out so I should know.
There was a corrupt catalog and I feel that had something to do with it.
