Epson 7900 trivia
« on: September 24, 2014, 11:22:28 am »

OK gang, I have been using my 7900 for a couple of years, hundreds of great prints and never a serious problem. But, I still don't know what these little rubber doo-dads are for (see image). If you can enlighten me, please do!

I'll make a guess.

I think the rounded indent slightly behind them is meant to hold a media roll while you put the end caps on.  (I use this area more like a table.)

So, I'll bet the rubber doo-dads are to make a small attempt at preventing the media roll from hitting the floor if you pull it out of the indent, or don't set it down quite right, or something.

After years of ergonomic engineering and thousands of hours of customer's behavior analysis, Epson concluded that putting that bumper there was the best thing to do about the clogs/head problems as that is the most likely spot where customers punch their malfunctioning printers.  :P

Now, a bit more seriously, as the manual instructs the users to lay down the bare paper rolls on top of the printer, it is probably a roll stopper.

I don't want to start any controversy, but I always thought they were to prevent the edge of the front door from hitting the metal when you open it all the way. I think the roll stopper is that dish shaped groove a bit over an inch behind them.  ???

Ding ding. You win. They stop the door from hitting the top of the printer.
