Posted an earlier shot of the Milky Way but after being more dogged in the processing department and figuring out how to make some needed separations, I came up with this iteration...and I think, no matter what God you believe or disbelieve in, the title is quite fitting.

Shot looking out over the Gulf of Mexico

And that's just a portion of one galaxy amongst hundreds of billions of them. Like you say, insignificant, yet each one of us is unique.

Quite. Monty Python put it quite well.

Or less amusingly, but maybe more deeply philosophical ...

I like both, but it is this one I think I like the most:

We are indeed unique because even as specks intertwined in this vastness, we can record this majesty in so many ways.

Also very beautiful . I think that post-processing of night shots is half the battle, and I might say, the battle that I haven't even come close to fighting well. Now what can I do with this slider.....

+1. I'll say it again, I never grow tired of images of the night sky, especially when so nicely processed.

Like you, Nancy, post processing these images will make a grown man/woman cry. I finally figured out that my in-camera WB had to be set a little cooler from the outset so I adjusted to 3400K, enough so to remove much of the tendency toward orangey-browns given by Auto WB 1. The hardest past for me in processing these is to get any depth in the MW "cloud." For this, there was a lot of slider action - contrast, shadows, colors, levels, curves..tweak here, tweak there, until on my last exposure of the night, I was able to get to this point.

Re second image: There you go! I see that D800 wasn't good enough for you ;)
I would like to experiment with this out here in the desert, but haven't yet made time.

Second image - I really like the faintly visible grass in the foreground. This gives some of the "real" feeling - we (people with dark-adapted eyes watching the sky) can see the foreground setting in real life, and subtle exposure blending mimics that "grounded, yet looking at the sky" feeling.
