LR gradient tool not up to snuff
« on: September 21, 2014, 07:33:03 pm »

The gradient tool in ACR now has an adjustment brush included that allow one to erase and fine tune the gradient.

This capability is not in LR--WHY/  and WHEN will it be??

I'm betting Jeff Schewe can't tell you that it will be in LR6.   ;D

According to Julianne Kost at Photoshop world (who was responding to some questions from her demo of the feature at the keynote address) she claims she was told that because Lightroom is still a perpetual license product, new features cannot be included in updates to the current version.  Sort of logical, not much reason to upgrade a product if all the new stuff gets rolled into the prior version.

And she didn't say it would be in LR 6, but certainly that answer implies that's when it will show up.

No-one who knows will say, but it's a fair prediction that it will be in LR 6.

For now, it's worth noticing that in ACR you can make a brush edit to a radial or grad filter, then import the file into LR5.6, and the results of your brush edits will be displayed. So 5.6 understands those brush edits.

OT, but maybe an interesting side-note; I have noticed that after saving edits to xmp in LR and then opening the file in PSE's ACR "Lite", edits done in LR such as Grad and Rad Filters or brush work will be applied. These are features supposedly not present in the abbreviated version of ACR, but apparently are in fact there but without access to them from the UI.
