Out of Shadow
« on: September 21, 2014, 02:25:19 pm »

This photo has been sitting on my SSD as a B&W for past 4 months, not quite happy to post it, so I converted it back to color.

It's intriguing, but rather too small to appreciate. Could you post a larger version, perhaps?

Beautiful light and a different perspective than we are used to seeing form the slit canyons. Spectacular - but I'd rather not see the bare branches i the lower left. I know this perhaps the reason for the photo, but the beautiful design of the light and shadows of the canyon walls are what really make this photo.

Far more to my taste than the normal slot canyon shot.  Nice work!
Now if we only teach Terry which is his right and left hand. :D

I think it's the first time I see a horizontal panorama format of a slot canyon, lovely light and composition. I like the branches, they provide me a sense of scale and bareness of the place.

I am pro branch too, but I won't tell you if I'm right or left leaning ::)   Clearly Terry is an anarchist as he thinks both are bad ;)

This reminds me of light painting.  I'd imagine you didn't have someone up top standing and waving an LED panel at night for this though.  Could be quite interesting if you were able to bring a little LED flashlight with a diffuser down, and lightly bring some of the detail out of the shadows with multiple exposures and combine them together.  (TY Harold Ross for beginning my journey...)

This is also one of the few horizontal panos of slot canyons that I get to see and it is beautifully made.

Excellent!

As a nitpick, I feel as though a little bit more room at the bottom of the image might help to emphasise the branch, is this a crop from a full frame and if so do you have a bit more room to play with within the uncropped version to open up the bottom a little?

I am also pro branch, I think it's lacy delicacy set against the solid feeling of the rock behind, really helps to balance the shot.

a little bit more room at the bottom of the image might help...

I agree. Can you clone in some black space at the bottom?  The branch is the icing on the cake for me and makes this a superb image.

The bottom is as low as I can go on this photo.  However looking it against a black background helps solve I think what people are looking for.
