I've been a beta tester of Samsung cameras for the last year or so (my disclosure). I come from mostly a still photography background but have been doing more and more videos with cameras like the Panasonic GH4. I've read about the new codec that Samsung is using in their newly announced NX-1 camera and I am curious what the advantages of that codec are (and the disadvantages). Will the inclusion of that codec in their new camera change the lower end of the video market place?
The camera seems to tick many boxes with 4k (though even the uncompressed HDMI out is only 4:2:0), manually controllable mic inputs, headphone jack, etc. My opinion is that it's the first Samsung photo product that may be able to compete with Canon, Nikon and the others.
So what's up with the video codec?
