Coming of Age
« on: September 14, 2014, 01:04:25 pm »

Lots of budding bucks this time of the year. It's always fun to watch them in their first year of rut. They're kind of like early teenagers...and often act like it.

Interesting view.  Kinda of funny.  Nice shot.

The ears suggest he's listening to the click of your shutter.

The D810 is sooooooo quiet and I was 20 feet away, so  likely not; he was just chowing down with his friends. While I won't go so far as to say they are tame in the park, they are so used to cars, traffic and people, there's not much fear. They also know if you get stupid enough to touch one, harm one, or dare I say try to take one home for dinner, you go straight to jail and they go back to munching. Makes for easy subject matter except during rutting season when they go from quite docile to quite aggressive especially if you get between a 12 pointer and the doe he's trailing.

Meet the Deere's, Doesy and John - I did these for some tourists a few days ago. I am discovering more and more that some people will buy most anything. The photo framing was strictly for presentation.

I find it much harder to shoot wildlife than landscapes because unless it is the end of the world or you're shooting water, things don't tend to move much. Animals, birds, insects...they're all flitting about here and there and generally in not the most favorable light, challenging everything you know about photography and forcing quick decisions.

A deer can almost see you blink from about 50 feet, so most definitely. It's what keeps them alive.

Velvet, whiskers, and eyelashes! Not to mention ordinary fur.
