Computer RAM advice needed
« on: September 11, 2014, 08:41:26 am »

I have decided to upgrade by RAM from 12 to 24 GB by replacing my six 2-GB memory modules with 4-GB modules. But, I suspect there are different kinds and specs of RAM and I don;t know what I should buy. Any experts out there? Thanks.

Hi

I suppose the easy answer is to take one of the sticks out and read what it says on the labels.

Or if you still have it the motherboard handbook should tell you.

Peter,

You might try Crucial.com  and use their memory advisor or system scanner.  Their advice has always been accurate in my experience, and they make top notch memory.

This!  I've never received a bad stick from them and even though it's a little more expensive one does get a piece of mind that what they send you will work in your machine.  For PS and LR, RAM speed is not as important as the amount of RAM.

After I posted I realized that the thing to do was call Dell, where I bought the computer, and ask them. They also had the memory in stock at a good price so I am all set. Thanks for input.
