Ice Lines
« on: September 03, 2014, 11:20:30 am »

The importance of lines in a telephoto landscape.

After much practice with a 24mm prime where the compositional need is often for a foreground.  Learning telephoto landscapes teaches me the importance of lines.  They are so critical for leading the eye.

Yes, the lines... this shot seems smoother than the articles photographs lines.  I love the lines in the article you wrote.  I'm learning with my telephoto these days as well.  I'm finding the 23mm and 250mm (ish) are the most useful for me these days, unless doing macro, which would probably be great fun for you.  The lines in macro are a lot of fun.

I think you are right the lines are smoother in this one and that piece of ice is not far from acting as a foreground.  But as I was composing, it was certainly the lines which made it, or broke it!!
