Metabones Speedbooster Canon EF to Micro 43rds
« on: September 03, 2014, 10:49:47 am »

Yesterday I ordered one of the new Speedboosters to go with my also new Olympus EM-1.  I have just seen a warning online that it will not fit The Olympus.  Looking at the Metabones website I now see it appears to be updated and list the adaptor as not compatible with the EM1, EM5 or EM10.  I wish they had pointed this out before marketing it.  I am in the UK so it will take a while to arrive but I am hoping they may be able to cancel my order before it is shipped.  This is quite a disappointment as I was looking forward to using my large range of EF lenses with the camera.

Has anyone had dealings with Metabones and are they good at sorting out customer problems?

I've purchased quite a few adapters from them. They ship their orders from Hong Kong and there's little, if any, email response from them in the US unless it's relating to a pre-sales enquiry. Not the best experience. If at all possible (which I appreciate it is not in this particular case) I try and keep to Novoflex.

Update

Metabones have promptly replied and refunded my payment.  Excellent service.

However I am still very disappointed about not being able to use the Speedbooster on my new Olympus.  Hopefully they will make a modified version in the near future.  I suppose their target market is the Panansonic GH line for video use - but the Olympus market must be growing rapidly too.

Perhaps I'm misinformed but I thought the MK III worked with the E-M1. Is that the model you ordered?

Thanks,

Hi Don

This is the one I looked at
http://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPEF-m43-BM1

It has only just been launched and in fact Metabones have now updated the spec to show it as not compatible.  As far as I can make out it is because the overhang on the EVF in front of the camera protrudes quite a way and clashes with the large diameter adaptor.  A great pity and I'm surprised Metabones did not take the Olympus cameras into account - unless it is not technically simple to make the adaptor a smaller diameter because of the lens it houses.
