Sintra - romantic Portugal
« on: August 27, 2014, 09:51:08 am »

Sintra is a town about 30 km to the north of Lisbon. It has been famous in history for its mountain (Serra da Lua), that captures the moisture of the nearby sea, creating its very own climate and lush vegetation. It is also very touristy, especially in August.

I went there with the family recently for a small trekking, and took my EM1 and Panaleica 25mm lens with me. It is difficult to avoid the tourists, so it is well advised to stay off the beaten track. These are three photos that I hope illustrate some of the wonders of the region. I tried to convey a coherency in them, hence the B&W treatment and the attempt to go for the detail, rather than the grand vista.

#1 - view of part of the village and the serra, with the moorish castle on top (10th century).
#2 - a chestnut tree, with interesting patterns and textures.
#3 - the chestnuts themselves. I tried to create a path leading from the leaves to the fruits.

Kind regards.

I particularly like the composition of #2.
