Photoshop "Save for Web..." Without Metadata
« on: August 25, 2014, 01:06:13 am »

When choosing "Save for Web..." from Photoshop, there is a dropdown list of metadata choices to include: None, Copyright, Copyright and Contact Info, All Except Camera Info, and All. If I choose "None", the resulting file surprisingly still includes my Copyright information. Is this expected behaviour, or a bug? I am using Photoshop CC 2014.

At the very minimum you need this in all your files so you can be found and you can establish ownership of your works later on. It's another "flag" that can be found on the web. It also makes your photos unique to you.

At one time we stripped out the metadata because bandwidth was slow and storage expensive. Today, IMO, keep all the metadata intact when you export for the web so that your photos can be found and people can find you in return. It also makes it easier for the web crawlers to index your work so others can find it.

CS6 as well as CC 2014 retain the copyright. Is it a bug? Probably not since these two distant versions do the same thing. Should it remove everything considering there IS a Copyright Only option? Yes, I believe so.

Exactly! There is an option for saving Copyright information, therefore it seems logical that the "None" option should NOT save Copyright information. I'm calling it a bug.

They may be doing this to protect ourselves but the point is, there ARE a few times when I don't want my copyright info in the metadata. I can't go into details but I need that. Fortunately I'm using Lightroom to import these raws, I setup the import template for NO metadata, then copyright is never there in the first place. When I use the Export command with Copyright only, naturally it doesn't get placed into the JPEG's I have to create from that raw data. Otherwise one has to go into File Info in PS to strip manually or use some other utility.
