I will go with BW because the color distracts me from all the different vectors of his limbs, his fur, and the focus of his eyes. Interesting shot.

It's a fine shot, Jeremy. I too prefer the B&W, as the color doesn't really seem to add anything important.

I hope you are not offended, Jeremy, but I really think this photo of yours is not as interesting as the selfies taken by some macaque monkeys in Indonesia, as illustrated in attached link. You haven't risen to the standard. ;D

No offence taken, of course. I've been reading that story with some interest, Ray, and it's been the subject of a thread here too. Who knows what a gorilla might achieve with a camera?

Funnily enough, I know which I'd hang on my wall.

I prefer the colour version because I think the monkey looks more alive in colour and dead in the B+W version.

Notwithstanding the title, I think the monkey looks scared/afraid rather than thoughtful and the colour version seems to ameliorate this unhappy impression in my mind.

Yes, the posture, with arms wrapped round the body, could suggest fear or misery. Or it could just be a comfortable way for a gorilla to sit, of course: we should be careful not to over-anthropormphise.

Very nice shot.  I especially like the bluish and tan tones of the color version - don't think the B/W does anything better for it.  The tones and tonal values in the "wall" on right look close to being blown out(?)...I would look at bring that area down or maybe you have a bracket frame that's less exposed. I think this area need some detail brought back into it. Also you might look at cropping in a little bit tighter. /B
