Bárðarbunga Stirring

Volcano under the Vatnajökull glacier (image attached) in Iceland has woken up.  More in my blog post.

Another beauty. Tell me, have you ever taken a poor photograph?

I doubt it.

I understand a large region in the north of Iceland is closed to travel because of the potential eruption threat.

Fascinating to watch the eruption's development.

Interesting textures on the mountain, Rajan. New snow? Light? Processing?

If the first eruption is indeed small, that may be a good sign. Or not!

Yes, not all landscapes have to be an orange sunset.  Makes me want to go back to Iceland. I like your work!

Thank you, gentlemen.

There is some disagreement if an eruption did take place.  But all the agencies are still on high alert, areas in the north that may be impacted by glacial flooding have been evacuated and routes red-inked to traffic.

Scott - this was taken in the month of October so we have here around 5 or so months old topping of snow.  It is quite a sight from the overlook on the pass known as Almannaskarð as you come into Höfn from the north.  It has a steep gradient but thankfully now there's a tunnel that bypasses it.

Fascinating to watch the eruption's development.

Nice image!  This event has been very interesting to my wife and I as we returned from Iceland on Wednesday of this week.
