I think the warmth you added helps communicate the desert scene. The details deep in the image are great. I think a stronger foreground would make this stand out.

To me, the rock formations in the distance are the most interesting aspect of this shot. Have you tried a horizontal crop focusing more on the structures in the distance? I think with the layering of the rocks in the background you will still get a sense of depth.
