The only problem i found is going from 10.6.8 to 10.9.4 without hickups.
I very much like the 10.6.8 system better for its simplicity and speed.
I would suggest a clean install to avoid any problems.
10.9.4 is working well and has some advantages: better use of ram: faster in making thumbnails... Saver
If you like colors back intye finder i would suggest totalfinder or xtrafinder-
Both have better tabs as well

I had no problem at all upgrading from 10.8.x to Mavericks within a day of Mavericks being out and have had no problems at all since. Printing via Epson 3880 has had no hiccups after the switch (only the ones I ran into tonight - different story not associated with Mavericks).

Just as a heads up, you might want to look through this: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1365804

It concerns clipped display blacks in Lightroom under Mavericks.

Seeing on this end with a SpectraView, I've written to the people I know inside of Apple about it, hopefully they will fix this, it's been reported now for awhile.

A year ago, I updated my OS from 10.6.x to 10.8.x. Rather than running the normal update over my existing system (I have a number of programs that are not compatible with the newer system), I simply bought a new drive, cloned the old system and apps onto it then I did the update.

Since drives also have a limited life span in the real world, perhaps three to six years, I figured that it would be a good idea to have a new drive installed in case the old one would happen to fail since it was close to the top of the bell curve in age.

Now I boot regularly into the new OS yet have the older and bootable system still available for the occasional need to use with the "obsolete" software I still need. I will probably update my 10.8 to Mavericks once I have most of my work complete in a few weeks. Let others be field beta testers for Yosemite!

Thanks for the reference above.

I think I will hold off on updating for now.

Not seeing this problem at all on my 2011 MBP.

Considering the answers to the original questions are "No" and "Not really", can't imagine why you wouldn't go ahead.
