Hello guys, i just get my sekonic 758 dr and i want to calibrate for use with my nikon d800, never i used a lightmeter , i have a few question and before all am sorry for my bad english will try to be clear.

1- i saw several types of card for use with sekoni 758, all do the same at the end?

2- i am interested for now in get a profile for the dinamic range of my camera , what type of card i need for do it? (hoping the cheap way : )

3- worth buy those expensive cards?

4- i saw a cards like this:

how the scale of greys is related to colors tones? what means this? it does mean if i doesn't take the pic with the proper range of grey tones i can lost some colors?

if you are talking just about your camera (= how the spot metering works in it) you just need a trial copy of rawdigger (www.rawdigger.com)... that' s not about how to calibrate your seconic to make it easier to account for how your camera meters.

you can ask smb for the target patches values and try to print it yourself...

The Sekonic website has several videos that answer your questions in detail.

multifunctional as in fax+scanner+printer ?  well - just buy the target... if you are concerned about the price - but an older one (more shots necessary), it shall be cheaper

to calibrate your seconic for your camera you just need one of the targets that seconic needs... new one that requires 3 shots or old one that requires more (you can find it used - it shall be usable, even if scratched a little, as it is not like for color profiling of your camera)... you can even rent them = http://www.borrowlenses.com/category/calibrators

Hey bambanx,

Purchase the Sekonic Target 2 card. It works. I have the same meter & target 2 card. Watch Sekonic's (simplistic yet effective) video. It explains a lot.

The calibration works on my camera(s) and len(s).

You've spent good money on a camera and meter. Don't be $$$ foolish now:) How much time are you going to waste trying to save $132?

Kindest regards,

Yeah but for use just one time? I can expend on a card but for use one time confuse me.

but then he can get an experience (at least in searching for cheaper solutions) which might be worth more in the long run ;) ... I 'd print

PS: then he 'd need a spectrophotometer - that will be a worthwhile investment  ;D

Good Choice! Remember, you'll use the target/Sekonic calibration for each lens/camera that you have and will have:)  Not just once...

The cards are mad money. The easiest way is to take the 'real' tested iso from DxOand use the offset in the meter (nikon's usually seem to be 1/3 of a stop out).

If this is some new feature related to DR I'm not familiar with it.
