I like it, both as a photographer, and as a geologist!

Surreal, I like the deep blue of the sea and the spectacular and geometric aspect of the basalt columns.

Thank you, Erik, Paulo, Francois.

Paulo, I didn't know you did Geology.  As you surely know, Iceland is another name for Geology.

I've come back to this a few times now, Rajan. I love the amorphous geometry of this photograph. I know it's an oxymoron, but so is the contrast between the amoeba-shaped island and the angularity of the columnar basalt.

The blue is very electric - too much so for me. I feel the basalt should be more neutral in colour (thus bringing the rest of the photo more inline with white balance). However, if you are kept it blue for interpretive reasons, then so be it.

I like the lizard-like island, but I agree that the blue seems unusual.

Terry and Scott - thank you for your reactions.

The blue expresses what I felt at the time.  It was a bitterly cold winter's morning in this deserted fjord.  Part of the blue cast was already present in the capture courtesy the Lee Big Stopper filter.  I added some more.

Also:  At this small size the definition of the columns does not come through effectively.

I think part of the issue with the "extra" blue is not so much the blueness as you've injected that blueness into the whites. Perhaps a color cast adjustment to give the whites a sort of counter-balancing bit of punch.

I'm such a sucker for these basalt formations.  I have one from goat rocks in Washington I didn't capture properly, but they are almost as amazing as devils post pile IMO, this one is even better.

Chris,

Good point.  I have come back to it after a few days with my eyes reset.  Some of the blue in the background mountains and sky has been tweaked.
