Morning Squall
« on: August 09, 2014, 12:35:04 pm »

I awoke to go show some students the nuances of making better sunrise shots and whilst they puttered about, I turned my attention to the lovely developing clouds across the bay...this is the first of several.

It seemed to me that your picture wanted to be pumped up.  I think your version is too realistically atmospheric with the result that the horizon takes over and doesn't play well with the water and sky.

I like what you've done. Would you share your process?

Nice capture.  I like both versions, though I guess I agree that the second is a bit nicer.  Looks like he mostly just deepened the blacks.

It was photoshop, apply image, multiply [mask] 100%, and then brightness 48, contrast 32.  Oh, and smart sharp 50% .3 radius.

But don't tell anybody; it's the only trick I know.
