Yellowstone & Grand Teton suggestions
« on: August 07, 2014, 12:29:08 pm »

Hi guys

I am finally leaving Ontario for Yellowstone & Grand Teton for 2 weeks (road trip)... I've been waiting for this for a very long time and i don't wanna miss capturing those shots...

What are your recommendations and suggestions for places to visit in these two parks? I'm mostly looking for mountain reflections on calm waters but i know there's not a lot of that in Yellowstone... which is fine but i'd like to know where to go... what are some of the most picturesque locations in Yellowstone & Grand Teton?...

if you have experience at these places, please share... thanks very much. leaving in 2 days!

You can add String Lake, Jenny Lake, Phelps Lake and of course Jackson Lake.

Edit: getting calm waters is a challenge!

Calm water is a challenge.  If Slobodan got that calm water reflection on his first trip, he should buy lottery tickets.  I have a colleague who spent something like six years visiting a lake in Rocky Mountain National Park to get a cal water reflection.  Mirror smooth water requires high pressure centered right overhead, so monitoring weather forecasts is part of the planning. Good luck.

The Lamar Valley in the NW corner is beautiful and relatively untravelled.

How are you arriving?  Driving from ON?  Or flying in somewhere and renting?

The problem is finding things to do to spend the time between dawn and dusk. (relativcely speaking, of course). Especially in Grand Teton, I need about a week to get all the dawns and dusks I need to be where I want when I want.

My preferred time of year for that trip is late Spring - really as soon as they open the road between Grand Teton and Yellowstone. Although Autumn colours can be good in what the Americans call "the Fall".

Great image, better than any of mine. There is a place discovered by Ansel Adams called Snake River overlook near Schwabacher's lannding. It was smog the time I was there, but worth checking out.

In Yellowstone, I would mention Red Rock Point, nice view on the lower falls.

Best regards
Erik

IIRC, trees now partially block the view on the Snake river…
