LR Export without (any) Metadata
« on: August 05, 2014, 05:48:39 pm »

Can we Export from LR stripping all metadata? I'm trying to avoid attaching my name, as Creator and holder of image copyright, for purposes of giving exported images to my wife for her display on FaceBook. You may know that FB automatically attaches the name of copyright holder to images when the images go up as an "Album" and I'd like to keep my name out of it.

The LR Export dialog, near as I can tell, does not allowing stripping of this kind of metadata.

Many thanks,

John Caldwell

Sure, but what does that have to do with exporting a file? Can you impose an "empty" metadata template at the time of export?

Thank you,

Actually thought it should but not able to try this at the moment.

You probably know this already but if you can stand to work outside of LR the metadata can be stripped easily in Windows (assume similar for Mac) by selecting individual or group files right click Properties/ Details then click on rermove personal information

You can select "Copyright Only" in Export/Metadata and assuming you don't have that sole metadata there in the first place, nothing else gets exported. You could remove just that metadata with a template for export, then reapply after. Not elegant (we should have an option to strip everything) but that's what I've done in the past.

Then there is always Jeffrey Friedl's Metadata Wrangler http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/metadata-wrangler#history

That's just it, there is no metadata template for Export.

Select all images you wish. Apply a template that does not include copyright. Export with the option to exclude all metadata except copyright (there is none). After export select another template to replace with copyright.

I was fearful that's what you meant. I can't be the only one who finds this a conspicuous omission.

Or (another kludgey workaround): "Edit in Photoshop" -> resize, sharpen, etc. -> "Save for Web" -> choose "Metadata None".

Creat virtual copies of these images,  apply a metadata template to remove the metadata from the copies, then export.

Sure, John that works also. Thanks.

Stripping metadata has been available to us for along time through PS Save For Web, and such. I think the premise is that there are instances of online sharing that we'd like to not be identified. That seems simple to me, but I know each of our LR6 Must-Haves always seem simple.

But seriously, Export should have either a customizable Metadata template option, like Import does, or at least a Strip All option.

No?

Thanks to all who followed.
