Strange Bridge CC behavior
« on: August 04, 2014, 02:02:06 pm »

I am running both Photoshop CC and Photoshop CC 2014.  Both 64 bit.

If I have Photoshop CC open, and browse in Bridge, select 2 files, then tools, "open in photoshop layers", nothing happens.  I can "open" the files in Photoshop CC, but not into layers.

If I close Photoshop CC and open Photoshop CC 2014, and select 2 files, tools, "open in Photoshop layers" the files open in Photoshop CC 2014 OK, however about every other attempt, I get 2 untitled documents.  Each will have the 2 files, loaded into layers (the event happens 2x).

Not a show stopper, but I really don't use Photoshop CC 2014 that much.

I have checked all the preferences and can't find anything to change.

I have not uninstalled Bridge CC yet, but may try that next.  I can't find a way to delete it from the CC manager so I guess you take it out from Control panel.

Has anyone seen this type of behavior with Bridge, with both Photoshop CC and CC 2014 installed?

I am running win7 64 bit.

Thanks
Paul

My answer from Adobe Tech Support was,  "this is normal behavior". To have the files open in Photoshop CC layers I will have to uninstall Photoshop CC 2014.

Not what I am wanting to do.

I believe you got some bad advice. The procedure you describe works fine on my Windows PC using Photoshop CC (2014). I don't understand your reasoning for keeping Photoshop CC on your machine after installing Photoshop CC (2014), since that appears to be what is confusing Bridge CC.

I am running Photoshop CC (2014) 64bit and Windows 8.1 Pro.

Mainly because I don't want to reinstall all my plugins and filters again.  But I will start that process and take CC off. I personally did not find much difference in CC and CC 2014 for my workflow.

Just find it surprising that bridge won't open in Photoshop layers for CC but does everything else fine.

I have just tested it and selecting 2 files/ Tools/ "open in Photoshop layers" works perfectly in Ps CC 2014 on Mac OSX 10.8.5.

I do have both Ps CC and CC 2014 installed on this machine.

Updates for both Bridge CC and Ps have recently been posted on Creative Cloud so try applying the Updates and see if that fixes the problem?

After the last Bridge update I lost all "Tools" for all Adobe programs. I uninstalled Photoshop, rebooted, then a fresh install off the Adobe Cloud and all is right with my Photoshop tools menu in Bridge.

It's another gaff by Adobe. Take a look:

Thanks for the info. Can you do the same thing with Photoshop CC open?  Or will the open in Photoshop layers que up until you open Photoshop CC 2014?

Simple test open Photoshop CC (not 2014) browse in bridge, open 2 or more files in tools (open in Photoshop layers) and see if the files open with Photoshop CC open.

Thanks

With no version of Photoshop being open, Bridge will always open Ps CC 2014 on my machine and put the files into its layers because that is the way that I have set Bridge's File Associations prefs. to behave.

Although I still have Ps CC (2013) on this machine, I have no occasion to use it anymore.
