Down by the river*
« on: August 01, 2014, 03:53:45 am »

Good morning folks,
My previous posted image was from the star trail I did last weekend. My MW shots were curtailed by a cloud cover coming in, so I went to bed... But I did woke up early to go down to the river and get some shots with my new M-Zuiko 75 1.8 lens, just taking it for a spin, check the effectiveness of IS, DOF possibilities and so on.
The cloud cover was still there, so the light was soft and nice. The water was also very quiet. So I have played around with the lens, and I have to say it is a really nice one. There is something to be said about packing such power in such a small camera and lens combination (EM1).
And it is not too shabby doing some close-ups.
All in all, it was a great weekend, and I can highly recommend the rural tourism house where I have stayed with the family, if you ever come this way.
Regards

*Could not resist to title the post from one of Neil Young's most famous songs, and one of my favourites too!

#1 the angle or maybe 1/3 of the shot is blank
#2 well composed and framed, but somewhat uninteresting
#3 great background bokah, in fact I think this would be perfect without the leaf dangling as a distraction
#4 It's a nice shot

Both 2 & 3 work well for me.  I like the honest light on both of them.  I don't think 3 would work without the in focus leaves.

You take my hand,
I'll take your hand
Together we may get away
This much madness
is too much sorrow
It's impossible
to make it today

Quite different from your epic starscapes and seascapes! #1 is engaging and #3 playful. I like the softness of the forms and the colours.

Thanks all for the feedback. As I said, just an early morning stroll with some nice soft light, trying to get a feel for a new lens.
