There are a couple of existing threads about Apple's decision to no longer continue Aperture development. I have knowledge gaps that I hope can be cleared up and am starting a new thread so my question didn't get lost in those older threads.
I am running Aperture 3.4.5 on Lion (not able to upgrade the OS because of hardware limitations) and thus it cannot open my Oly E-M10 raw files. I know very little DNG, but tried the Adobe DNG converter. But my version of Aperture cannot use those converted DNGs, so there is something about Aperture's DNG implementation that prevents this. This seems odd to me because the RAW files from that generation of 16 mpix sensors in earlier models (PEN series, E-M5) can be processed by that version of Aperture. Trying to understand this, I found this thread:
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/967113 , which seems to explain what is going on.
I have bought LR5 and my question is this. Somewhere on one of those other threads, someone mentioned that when new versions of LR are released, newer camera RAW support is not extended to older versions of LR. I have no idea if this true. Is it?
Assuming that it is true, I have a question. After LR6 is released, if my E-M10 breaks and I buy something newer, then I cannot necessarily expect RAW support for it in LR5. I get that. However, can I expect to convert those new RAW files to DNG and be able to use those in LR5?
