NEC Multisync LCD2690wuxi vs AMD RADEON HD 7900

The optimal monitor resolution for my NEC Multisync LCD2690wuxi should be 1920x1200. However, when I set it at this resolution, the colours on the screen break up and the screen divides into 3 separate blocks!
I have contacted NEC - they have taken the monitor in and say there is no problem with the equipment. The AMD RADEON HD 7900 graphics card should be able to drive this monitor at its optimal resolution but I have to bring the resolution down to 1440 x 900 to get a reasonable picture. I have a very strong PC with 16gb installed memory. suggestions please.

Does the graphics card work with other screens with the same resolution?  Maybe it's not working properly.  Does the monitor cable work well with other systems?  Maybe it's not working properly.
