Printing direct to foam core board
« on: July 28, 2014, 09:17:06 am »

Has anyone had experience printing directly onto 1/8" foam core board (32 x 40) on their Epson WFP? Does it work? Should I make a custom profile? What platen settings do I use to prevent head strikes? Thanks.    - Jim

I believe that even 1/8 is going to be way too thick for the widest setting on your platen gap.  Also I don't believe foam core, standard or the more expensive acid free (which has a more matte finish) will take standard inkjet ink since there is not a inkjet receptor coating on it.  Thus more than likely it will smear.

I have worked with a print shop that ran prints on foam core, their unit could handle 1/8 and 3/6" and the ink used was more like a solvent setup.

It is too thick. 1/8" is 3.175 mm, and I think the most they will take is 1.5 mm.

The foam core board probably does not have a receptive layer and is too thick. 1.5mm max on my machine. Thanks to both of you.
