shipping a 44 inch wide printer
« on: July 26, 2014, 10:21:39 am »

So I`m thinking of getting a printer on ebay but the seller says I would have to arrange shipping. How would I go about this? Does anyone have a HP Z2100 shipping carton for sale?

by the time you're done w/ arranging shipping and any post in-transit 'issues', you may find it easier to rent a van and make a road trip if it's not ridiculously far.

That said, I'd find/arrange for the unit to be strapped to pallets so it stays horizontal during shipping.

you're likely talking $500-900 shipping, is the ebay savings worth that?

Well, the printer I`m looking at isn`t on ebay. It is in Boston and I`m near Cincinnati so that is 800 miles one way. Yes,the shipping quote is about $700.00 so it is a quandary. I want either a HP Z3200 or 3100 pretty bad. Don`t particularly want to rent a uhaul and pick it up personally at that distance.

I purchased a used Z3100 24" printer from Boston and I'm basically on the west coast. Shipping charges were about $400. Yes, have it strapped to a pallet to keep it upright.

my distant memory recalls reading that Greyhound (the bus company) can essentially do 'frieght' and they're dirt cheap.  Perhaps check it out.

Honestly, Cinn. isn't that far (although the NYS Thruway is boring as h*ll) and you should at least consider a road trip w/ co-pilot.  Out and back in way less than 48h.

busfreighter.com  shows 1 95lb box from OH to MA for about $60 station-to-station

I sold my Z3100 a few years ago and required the buyer to arrange shipping.  It is expensive, you need to know if there is an unloading dock at the receiving end, if a lift gate is required, and if you want it insured.  I just found it easier for the receiving party to make these decisions.  In the end, I was glad I did it that way.  I would encourage you to insure for potential damage.
