An ambush bug sits in wait for its next victim. I appreciate your C&C. Thank you for viewing.

EF 24-70mm

Seems to be quite a large bug. Nice job!

Thanks. This guy (girl?) was approximately an inch (~ 2cm) long. It was amazing to watch him/her stalk prey. I had not realized how much patterning the bug had until processing of the image. Definitely cool insects.

Very nice, I like the posture and also the details on the bug. The play between the shadows and the lit areas is interesting too.

I was also surprised by the lens used. Did you use extension tubes or did you cropped a lot of the original image?

Thank you for your kind comments. No extension tubes were used. I cropped about 20-25% mostly to remove some unwanted objects that were in the upper left corner of the raw image. The EF 24-70 zoom is pretty good for macro photography, and can get to within a several inches of the subject.

Thanks for info, Bob.
Are you using the new 24-70 f/2.8 II or the "old" 24-70 f/2.8?

I'm using the old model. I bought mine in the Spring of 2011.

Thank you… I sold mine last year for the new model but I never used them for macro. I'll give it a try… when the rain stops!
