When I upgraded to the 70-200 2.8 Silent Wave VR lens, I kept my old 80-200 2.8. Nikon still manufactures this lens. I kept mine because I didn't think I could sell it for enough to justify letting go of it. However, it now sits on a shelf with some other seldom used lenses. I'm just curious if anyone has used one on a D800?
Not on a D800, but for those that are adding motion imaging to their repertoire and use F mount lenses, the old 70 to 200 works very well.
Obviously motion imagery doesn't have to be as brutally sharp as modern still lenses, but the older push pull is great for slow zooms, if your camera is supported well with a good tripod and head. My push pull has beautiful color and fall off.
I use it on a RED 1 all the time and love it, wouldn't dare part with it.
But for stills, it's kind of soft with more modern cameras, until stopped down.
But once again, those old F mount lenses, (autofocus or manual) that have solid focus rings and are not servo are very nice for motion imagery and sought after.
IMO
