More Sedona questions
« on: June 28, 2014, 09:58:29 pm »

Two questions...

Anybody know how the recent bush fires have affected things, photographically speaking, around Sedona/Oak Creek?

And any suggestions as to whether it is best to access Oak Creek from the north (Red Rock Crossing Rd) or the south (Verde Valley School Rd) to take sunset shots of the Cathedral with the creek in the foreground? Or doesn't it make any difference?

Thanks!

I always went to Red Rock Crossing Park for the classic view with Oak Creek. It is a three ring circus with lots of people, however.Where are you staying? We were staying in Village of Oak Creek. We had the chamber of commerce man we spoke to recommend that we drive up the Verde Valley School Road to the end and hike from the end of the road. There's a trailhead parking lot there. When you hike over to Oak Creek, there are some steps across the creek to get into the Red Rock area where you can get a fabulous view of Cathedral Rock. Or if you prefer not to cross, the views are still fabulous. Saves money and the parking lot at Red Rock at times gets full. So we've been told.

Decided this was the way to go. Worked well although I hadn't quite appreciated how far it was from the parking lot at the end of Verde Vally School Rd down to the creek. Had a very hurried 10 minute walk so as to get there in time for the light!
