Coastal Landscape
« on: June 23, 2014, 05:34:58 pm »

I took this yesterday. Unfortunately, it was overcast, so the sky was rather boring. I wanted to capture the barrenness of the landscape. Any comments or critiques are appreciated.

I think that if you experiment with a lighter and/or more/less contrasty versions, you might achieve that bareness goal easier.

It seems an area with great potential. To me, the image does not work, because the path leads my eye to the middle of the image on the top, where nothing is happening.

You might try a very low camera position.  This would make the road more important, and would lead the eye toward the sparse trees at the top of the image.  Otherwise, shoot from a position way left of where you took this one, as the composition is not compelling as shot.

The sky is perfect - barren landscape, barren sky.

Keep the sky out of the picture when it is boring.  Zoom in to a smaller area on the ground.  Find something there that is interesting.

Everyone, thank you for the great responses. I will experiment with this image a little more and try a few different compositions when I return to this area.
