Water Series
« on: June 18, 2014, 05:24:53 pm »

One of my favorite subjects.  Lots of textures but I'm never sure how accessible these shots are.
Critique welcome.

Water is indeed a fascinating subject. My last solo show of some 40 prints had the theme of water. You have done a great job of capturing the movement without obscuring the structure.

Not hugely keen on the second two, not sure why though.

However, I do like the first one. It has a sense of depth with the overlay of the softly moving water and the stones. It is calm, but with a fluid motion. It encourages one to reflect upon what they are seeing.

The other two just feel uneasy to me. Not slow enough to create a soft abstract, and not fast enough to capture the raw power of the water.

*All thoughts are solely my own, based on my interpretation upon viewing the images quickly. Feel free disregard.*

Nicely seen and captured. I'm not sure what you mean by "accessible".

Love #3. Very dynamic and abstract.

All good, but #3 is wonderful. As is, and many crop variations.

Yes, and it has a pleasing composition.

Thanks to everyone for your comments and variety of opinion.

What I am trying to do with these is freeze certain aspects of the motion and blur others.  So the technique is similar to that described by Michael with his bull fighting set - panning with one of the dominant motions.  I've been trying this for some time with very mixed success but when you can read the water it works pretty well.  Composition is an ongoing problem.  The results are sometimes counter intuitive, that the reason for my comment on accessibility.  That and my wife's typical comment of "oh well that kind of interesting" with emphasis on the "kind of".
