Just a little more ice
« on: June 14, 2014, 11:57:07 pm »

I used some of the suggestions on my last ice post here. Further suggestions welcome.

The second is a real winner for me.

Yes, #2 is great and I think the reflection ads a lot to it.

#2 works for me, too. Even though it's one "we've seen before", it works. Consider removing the small "bits" in the foreground water. "Cleaning" it up and adding some brightness to it might just allow it to sing a longer.

Thanks, Paulo and Terry.

I gave brightening a try but find I am much attached to the contrast between the ice and dark water. Paulo likes his nights bright; I like my days dark. Perhaps these are all too dark.

I agree that those specks are unappealing. I had a surprise while I was focusing these shots on a zoomed live view: the water was full of tiny fish and there were little rings constantly forming and quickly disappearing. Explains the abundance of terns and seals.

#1 is good. #2 is really good, but I agree with Terry's suggestions.

I love photo #2, it's clean, simple and elegant.

Here it is, cleaned and brightened. Better?

Thanks, Mike and Francois.

Removing the bright spot in the centre is a definite improvement. I think brightening the shot generally is highly damaging, though.

I like the reworked version - everyone gets an opinion!
