FS: Copal Electronic Shutter System
« on: June 01, 2014, 02:42:02 am »

I have for sale a rather unusual Copal CVS Electronic Shutter Control System. While this is a used system, it is in very good operating condition.
This system was originally made for Toyo View Cameras, but can be used on any camera that will accept Copal 0, 1 and 3 size shutters.
I am including three Copal CVS-10 shutters, meaning that they are actually Copal 1 size, but with factory-installed adapters for Copal 0 lens elements, and two Copal CVS-1 shutters (Copal 1 size).

The system consists of the following:

1. Copal CVS Control Unit
2. Battery Pack
3. Charger
4. Grip / Release
5. Three nos. Copal CVS-10 0 size shutters and retaining rings
6. Two nos. Copal CVS-1 1 size shutters and retaining rings
7. Power cord from the Battery Pack to the Control Unit
8. Shutter Cord from Control Unit to Shutter
9. Release Cord from Grip/Release to Control Unit

An AC adapter was made for it, but I do not have it. The battery pack is a simple 12V, 3A, 500mAh unit. The charger is built for 100V, but a transformer can be used if necessary. It would be easy, and perhaps better, for a competent person to adapt a newer battery pack with much higher capacity. Paramount (for cords), and Quantum (for batteries) may be able to help.

Speeds are available from 1/250th second (for 0 size shutters) and 1/125th second (for 1 and 3 size shutters) to 16 seconds and B. Focusing may be done at fully open aperture or taking aperture. Since the shutters I have are all actually size 1 shutters, speeds are from 1/125th only.

Apertures are set on the Control Unit through a system of magnetic tabs. Each shutter/lens is supposed to have its own tab. I have one blank tab that can be used as a template for making your own tabs. I will explain this procedure to the buyer. It is very simple, and can be done easily. Otherwise, a camera repair person like SK Grimes can easily make these tabs.

An X-sync flash port is available on the Control Unit. Since I do not know the voltage generated by the Control Unit, I recommend using a Wein SafeSync or similar device to ensure the safety of your equipment.

I have a photo-copied Japanese language manual. Additionally, I will provide a basic English how-to guide.

This is a relatively inexpensive way to get automated control of shutter speeds and apertures for photographers using digital backs with view cameras.
I am asking USD 2700 for the complete system, including free worldwide tracked and insured shipping via JapanPost EMS. Payment is through Paypal or wire transfer.

Photos of the system components can be found here: https://picasaweb.google.com/104131518494734389012/CopalCVS?authkey=Gv1sRgCLqw3_e_y6rwRg

Thanks for looking,
Kumar

This system will save you the Long March to the front of the camera. Great for multiple exposures, stitching, focus-stacking...
