Go down in size, that is the one single biggest
saving you do. Are you really sure you need 27"? If you stretch your budget just a little bit more, a PA242 with Spectraview II should be within reach.

This is very common and something you should watch out for. Nothing kills your editing pleasure more quickly.
You'd think that if you lay down $500 - 1000 for a monitor, a reasonably uniform screen is not too much to ask. But uniformity isn't in the spec sheet, so manufacturers can cut corners here and save a bundle, and still sell what on paper looks like a high-end unit.
