A story behind a plaque…
« on: May 27, 2014, 01:17:45 pm »

Hi,

The enclosed photograph shows a plaque reminding of Andor Kraszna Krausz, a hungarian emigrant who started Focal Press. I bought the Focal Encyclopedia of Photography back in 1973 and still have that old book.

The funny thing was that Andor Kraszna Krausz was a good friend of Herbert Keppler, long time editor in chief/publisher/editor at large of Modern Photgraphy and later Popular Photography. He made a picture of Andor Krassna Krauss in his family kitchen.

When the town of Szombathely, the place he was born, wanted to mark his birthplace with a plaque they asked for permission to use Herbert Keplers photo as an inspiration for the plaque:

Best regards
Erik
