not liking this
« on: May 26, 2014, 05:12:41 pm »

I broke my own rule about only shooting pretty subjects...but it looked nice at the florist's shop.
I shot it using a black Plexiglas sheet mirroring the blue sky...is it worth a different perspective?

Imo flowers are a subject that most photographers take pictures of but rarely admit to and rarely put them up for critique here or on Flickr or somewhere similar. They can make a nice subject but are hard to capture well because of depth of field issues and lack of detail. I don't think you have pulled it off mainly due to the cluttered background.

Not so sure about flower shots, but I like the composition and the bland background.

I've shot that thing numerous times, numerous ways, and it always looks terrible...finally it died!     ::)

I like the BG here better than the rose. Overall the photo is punchy and colourful and not as bad as Perhps stamper makes it out to be. A lower perspective would certainly give the flower strength against that BG. Also, cleaning up the petals of pollen would help.

Check out Robert Mapplethorpe if you want to see some great flowers.
