Question about JPGs and quality
« on: May 19, 2014, 05:59:33 pm »

JPGs can be saved at different levels of quality. Is 100% quality compressed without loss? I guess what I am asking is whether using PNG format, with its lossless compression, has any advantages over JPG at 100%.

Only JPEG 2000 offers lossless compression. Normal JPEG, even at 100% quality does indeed loose some color data although it's very, very subtle.

You might also find it interesting to try outputting at different qualites. Someone in the studio exported some jpegs at very low quality 2 or 3 If I remember, I then exported some not realising the setting had been changes (yes I know I should have checked) It was only when I looked at the file sizes I realised. Even on a decent size screen it was hard to tell the difference.
