Keywording technique
« on: May 18, 2014, 07:46:29 am »

Hi all,

I just use a rainy weekend for keywording older photos from my time before LR.
First I was going on a folder to folder basis, but now I've come up with a tecnique that works fine for me and that I want to share.
I have used a Smart Collection for images without Keywords, but it did not work when adding multiple keywords because the images dissappear as one Keyword was added.
So I have created a Smart Collection with following criteria: Keywords - are empty OR (= Match: any)  Label Color - is - purple (purple is a colour I don't use for anything else).
I can select a group of images now that get the same keywords, mark them as purple, add as many keywords as I want and when finished I just have to remove the purple mark and the images are gone from the Smart Collection.

Maybe it helps someone.

Sounds like a good idea. Have you tried using the Painter tool to add keywords?

Mike,

I gave the Painter tool a try, but it's not my favourite way to work.

I'd also point you to my Search and Replace plugin. Its Parse and Audit command counts the number of keywords per photo and does other reviews of your metadata entry. So if you aim at (say) a minimum of 10 keywords per photo, you can quickly find images which need more work. This command works fully even if you don't buy the plugin.
