Seeking recommendation on canvas printing service
« on: May 10, 2014, 04:03:58 pm »

Hopefully this is an appropriate topic for this forum.

I am interested in trying canvas printing.  I only have an Epson 3880 currently and thus cannot print large enough to make gallery wraps nor do I have a roll feed.

I would like to experiment with canvas somewhat seriously, and might even consider buying a larger format printer if it became something I really got into.  Anyway, that's getting ahead of myself for now.

My question is, can anyone recommend a service that does a reasonable job of producing quality prints from my files? I'd prefer a company where I can ideally specify the canvas type, or at least know what it is and is something worthy of ultimately considering for my own use (e.g., Hahnemuhle).  Obviously there are lots of services that show up prominently in a google search, but I'm interested in something that the discriminating readers of LL would take seriously.

I am located in the U.S. (northern California).  I would be interested in trying canvas for my landscape work.

I realize you are a long way away, but I totally recommend Dan Berg (longstanding forum member member here) who is in PA.

He can do whatever you need in terms of canvas printing, and can build a crate if needed.

On top of that, he runs workshops on printing.

Above and beyond all that - he's a great guy, always happy to help, and does exceptional work.

Well worth any extra expense due to distance - unquestionably.

And Coastal Giclee in Pacific Grove. They'll sell you all the stuff if you decide to do it yourself later on.

I second the suggestion of Dan Berg. He stepped in in an emergency and did an excellent job for me.

I would strongly recommend Dean Imaging (www.deanimaging.com) for any sort of printing, particularly for a custom service.

Get it shipped sprayed but unstretched, then have it stretched locally once you get it - saves a lot on shipping.
